I remember mom told me a couple of times that she and dad were over at grandma's and grandpa's house for his birthday. When they got home they turned on the radio and heard about Pearl Harbor. So mom ran back over to tell them about it, and they just acted kinda unconcerned (like "huh, oh, OK").
When we were planning the reunion, Pat Callahan Jr referred to 5th and Parade as the center of the universe. With that thinking, you can kind of understand why Grandpa and Grandma had no big concern...it wasn't in their circle of worry.
I had a thought. Maybe grandpa and grandma didn't have much of a reaction to the bombing of Pearl Harbor because they didn't know their geography - maybe they didn't know where Pearl Harbor was. Maybe they never even heard of the place.
